Welcome to Going International After 40

If not now, when?

This line has become my mantra. For those who don’t know me I am a married mother of one, teacher, friend and happily settled into a great life. So why? Why make such a huge shift? I have long been an adventurous person, curious to know more about far away places and cultures. I speak two languages and have tried to learn a bit of the local languages of the places I visit, with varying degrees of success.

I had been looking at making a change for a while and I had been reflecting on what I really wanted to spend my life doing. In my discovering the wider world for educators I came across many different jobs, companies and institutions. Opportunity knocked.

A foreign school offered me a job! My imagination took root and I sent hours talking with my husband about all the “what if” and “yeah buts”. As you may well imagine my well-established life and career meant that there were lots of considerations to take into account. I chose to answer the door and walk through. Then the pandemic hit and even more questions arose, more worry, more uncertainty. But I had signed the contract, I had given notice and there was really no way left to go but forward.

Today, most of the questions have answers. Now, when people ask about my decision my answer is simply; if not now, then when? This site and the stories I will share I hope will inspire others to overcome their fears, insecurities and worries and allow into their adventure and curiosity. After all we only have one life to live, so get to it.

“The 3 C’s of Life: Choices, Chances, Changes. You must make a choice to take a chance or your life will never change.”

Zig Ziglar

Life after 40 means transition. So many elements in my life that I have spent years focusing on are now shifting. My need to be challenged and adventurous has prompted a great deal of reflection and study.  I’ve made a choice to take a chance on my career path.  Life now is going to be full of new challenges, many lifestyle changes and much learning.  Join me in my adventure!
